Course Overview

Master of Laws (LLM) in Company Law, offered by The University of Law, is a postgraduate degree designed for law and non-law graduate to enhance your academic legal knowledge. This course focuses specifically on developing an in-depth knowledge of Company Law in practice and can open up pathways to careers such as chartered governance professional or company secretary within large organisations, private companies and charitable organisations, governorships, and directorships.

This online course provides a thorough grounding in the legal framework governing registered companies (including compliance and administration) whilst developing the knowledge and skills necessary for practice as a company secretary or governance professional. It will cover areas such as: the nature and formation of the company; the board of directors; membership of the company; capital and corporate transparency; corporate restructuring, rescue and liquidation; the role of the company secretary, board and other stakeholders; and meetings and shares.

How you're assessed

Modules are assessed by a three hour unseen written examination or 4,500 word coursework assignment.

All assessments are conducted online.

The dissertation module will be assessed by submission of a thesis (15,000 words), and provides an opportunity for sustained, in-depth and intensive investigation into, and reflection upon, your chosen specialist area.

What are the entry requirements?

Students should possess a UK undergraduate degree in any subject at 2:2 or above, or an equivalent qualification.

A compulsory two week induction is required for all students, unless they can evidence the successful completion of either:

  • an LLB or equivalent; or
  • a minimum of 3 legal modules, worth at least 80 QCFcredits that must include;
    • English Legal System
    • Contract Law
    • Law of Tort

English language requirements for applicants whose first language is not English

  • An English language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component. If you don’t have Alternative English Language Qualifications, we will offer you the University of Law English Test (ULET) to meet your English Language condition.
